High School Roundup: Huntington Beach notches walk-off win in Boras Classic

Antonio Ventimiglia hit a walk-off single to lead the Huntington Beach High School baseball team to a 3-2 win over Yucaipa in a Boras Classic opener on Tuesday at Mater Dei High School.

Ben Jacobs struck out 10 batters over six innings in getting the start for Huntington Beach (16-7). Ralph Velazquez also hit a home run for the Oilers.

Orange 6, Costa Mesa 1: Matt Anderson went two for three with a home run, but it wasn’t enough for the Mustangs on Tuesday in an Orange Coast League game at home.

Costa Mesa (11-11, 4-8) needs to win two of its remaining three games to finish with a winning record and keep its hopes for an at-large berth into the CIF playoffs alive.

Estancia 14, Saddleback 1: Jack Moyer struck out seven and did not allow a hit in three innings to earn the win for the host Eagles on Tuesday in an Orange Coast League game.

Moyer also had a double and three runs batted in at the plate for Estancia (19-5, 7-5). Andrew Mits drove in three runs, and Tyler Humphries scored three runs.

Los Amigos 3, La Quinta 2: The Lobos earned a tight win on the road to maintain a one-game lead over Santiago and Loara for first place in the Garden Grove League.

Josiah Alvarez picked up the win on the mound, adding two hits offensively for Los Amigos (20-3, 9-3). Juan Gutierrez notched the save.

Newport Harbor 4, Marina 3: Sam DiCarlo allowed two earned runs while recording seven strikeouts over five innings for the visiting Sailors on Tuesday in a Wave League game.

Bryce Blaser had two hits and a run scored for Newport Harbor (15-9, 4-4). AJ Guitron-Moore, Jack Morris and Troy Christensen each had a run batted in for the Sailors.

Marina (6-19, 2-6) has lost three games in a row.

Los Alamitos 2, Edison 0: The Chargers fell to 10-14 overall and 1-7 in the Surf League following Tuesday’s game at home.

Ocean View 1, Katella 0: Owen Sideris pitched five shutout innings, picking up the win for the Seahawks in Tuesday’s Golden West League game at Ocean View High.

Gavin Kells earned the save for Ocean View (16-7, 7-0).

Dylan Simonds had a single and a run batted in for the Seahawks, who remain in a first-place tie with Segerstrom in league with three games remaining.

Ocean View plays at Katella on Friday, before playing at Segerstrom on Tuesday and at home against Segerstrom on April 28 in the league finale.

Sage Hill 13, Rowland Heights Southlands Christian 0: The Lightning snapped a four-game losing streak with a win on Tuesday in a San Joaquin League game.

Sage Hill is now 7-8-1 overall and 2-5 in league play.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Costa Mesa 18, Santa Ana 0: The Mustangs blanked the Saints on Tuesday in an Orange Coast League match on the road.

Costa Mesa (10-3, 8-0), which has won its past 10 matches, has clinched the outright league title.

Fountain Valley 11, Huntington Beach 7: The visiting Barons swept the season series with the Oilers with a win on Tuesday in the Surf League match.

Fountain Valley improved to 9-7 overall and 2-4 in league. Huntington Beach (9-6, 0-4) has lost five matches in a row.

Edison 13, Newport Harbor 5: The Chargers snapped a four-match losing streak on Tuesday with a Wave League victory at home.

Edison (6-11, 3-2) will look to clinch a playoff berth when it takes on Laguna Beach (7-8, 2-3) in a battle for second place on Monday.

Newport Harbor fell to 0-11 on the season.

Marina 14, Laguna Beach 4: The Vikings clinched the outright Wave League championship on Tuesday with a win over the visiting Breakers.

Marina (14-5, 5-0) is the fourth-ranked team in the Division 2 poll.

La Quinta 18, Los Amigos 0: The first-place Aztecs did not drop a set on Tuesday in a Garden Grove League match at La Quinta High School.

Los Amigos (4-7-1, 2-6) has lost six of its past seven matches.

Segerstrom 17, Ocean View 1: The host Seahawks fell to 2-12 overall and 1-8 in the Golden West League following Tuesday’s defeat.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Newport Harbor 3, Laguna Beach 0: The host Sailors swept the Breakers 25-17, 25-14, 25-12 to cap an undefeated run through the Surf League in Tuesday’s regular season finale.

Newport Harbor (22-5, 6-0), ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 and 2 combined poll, awaits the release of the section’s playoff pairings on Monday.

Laguna Beach (14-19, 0-5) has two matches remaining — at home Thursday against Corona del Mar and at Garden Grove on Friday.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Tustin 13, Sage Hill 9: Sophia Avonce had six goals, and Rachel Calvo and Jamera Fernando each had three goals for the host Tillers on Tuesday in an Empire League match.

Sage Hill dropped to 3-10 overall.
