UC Irvine junior Lloyd Sicard has been named the Big West Conference Co-Athlete of the Year in men’s track.

Sicard won his second consecutive Big West title in the 110-meter high hurdles on May 14 with a season-best time of 13.64 seconds, which is the second-fastest in the history of the conference meet that was first conducted in 1970.

That time ranks first in the Big West this season, seventh in the West Region and 14th nationally. He also runs legs on the 4x100 relay that has a season-best time of 40.97 and the 4x400 relay with a top time this year of 3:11.12. The 4x400 was runner-up at this season’s conference meet and the 4x100 finished third.

Sicard, who was named Big West Track Athlete of the Week twice this season, will compete in the NCAA West Preliminary Round Thursday through Saturday at Lawrence, Kan. This is the third consecutive year that he is competing in the NCAA postseason.

Sicard was named Big West Freshman of the Year in 2014 and is UCI’s school-record holder in the 110 hurdles with a time of 13.60 that he registered at last year’s NCAA West preliminary round in Austin, Texas.

He shares the 2016 Big West Athlete of the Year honor with UC Santa Barbara distance runner Shyan Vaziri.
