High School Roundup: Eagles rally for win

COSTA MESA — Junior Derek Andrews scored on a lob shot from five meters out with three seconds left to lift the Estancia High boys' water polo team to a 9-8 Orange Coast league win over visiting Saddleback Wednesday.

Senior Charlie Umansky led the Eagles (13-4, 2-1 in league) with five goals, while Andrews added two goals. Junior Brody Hensheid and Preston Schow scored one goal each. Senior goalie Conner Graham recorded 15 saves.

The Eagles trailed, 8-7, with 2:30 remaining. Umansky tied it up with 37 seconds left.

Graham blocked a shot with 15 seconds left to help set up Andrews' heroics.

Estancia competes in the Costa Mesa Tournament Saturday.

NEWPORT BEACH – Ryan Fowler scored two goals, including what proved to be the game-winner for the Sea Kings in the Sunset League game Wednesday.

Fowler's final goal came with 4:01 left. The Sailors' defense held, producing two steals in the final minute. Goalie Chris Whitelegge anchored the defense with 10 saves.

Curtis Fink and Dan Stevens scored one goal each for Newport Harbor (13-2, 2-0 in league).

COSTA MESA – Laurel Hinson swept at No. 1 singles for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League match Wednesday.

Erin O'Neil and Christy Brown swept at No. 1 doubles for Estancia (6-6, 3-2 in league), which plays at Laguna Beach today.
