High School Roundup: Mesa improves to 3-0 in league


Costa Mesa 55, Calvary Chapel 49 (OT)

COSTA MESA — Jordan Walden scored 12 points, including four clutch free throws late in overtime to seal the Mustangs' Orange Coast League win Wednesday.

Costa Mesa (9-10, 3-0 in league) saw its nine-point lead dwindle in less than two minutes left in regulation, but the Mustangs outscored the Eagles, 8-2, in overtime.

Matt Dimson led Costa Mesa with 17 points, while Andrew Albers had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Mustangs play host to Laguna Beach Friday at 7 p.m.


Estancia 47, Saddleback 32

COSTA MESA — Ray Holmes scored 14 points to lead the Eagles in the Orange Coast League game Wednesday.

Davon Joyner scored 11 points and Ben Beck had 10 points for Estancia (11-9, 2-1 in league), which plays at Calvary Chapel Friday at 7 p.m.


Fountain Valley 74, Newport Harbor 58

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Sophomore Zach Wade finished with 13 points in the Sailors' Sunset League game Wednesday.

Craig McKennon had 12 points for Newport Harbor (8-11, 0-4 in league).



Costa Mesa 21, Saddleback 8

COSTA MESA — Senior Ashley DeMarzo scored six goals for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League game Wednesday at Costa Mesa High.

Sophomore Kellie Thorsness scored four goals for Costa Mesa (11-9, 2-0 in league). Senior Sydney Rosello added three goals, three assists and also drew two exclusions.

The Mustangs play host to Huntington Beach on Friday.


Estancia 9, Godinez 6

SANTA ANA — Ilene Umansky scored five goals to lead the Eagles in the Orange Coast League game Wednesday at Santa Ana Valley High.

Kylie Carpenter had two goals, while Maren McClanahan and Shannon Spellman had one goal each for Estancia (7-14, 1-1 in league). Eagles goalie Alexis Paul had nine saves.


Corona del Mar 14, Irvine 3

IRVINE — Diana Murphy scored five goals for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Wednesday.

Pippa Saunders added four goals, Cassidy Papa had three goals and goalie Alex Musselman had 12 saves and two assists for CdM (12-5, 2-0 in league).



Costa Mesa 3, Calvary Chapel 0

COSTA MESA — Jorge Sanchez scored two goals for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League game at Orange Coast College Wednesday.

Kevin Parra added a goal, while Jesus Estrada had two assists and goalie Peter Salas made four saves for Costa Mesa (5-7-1, 1-2 in league), which plays host to Laguna Beach Friday at 4:45 p.m. at Jim Scott Stadium.
