Oilers defeat Sailors, 13-5

The Huntington Beach boys’ lacrosse team ran its record to 10-0 on April 6 by defeating visiting Newport Harbor, 13-5, at Cap Sheue Field.

Senior attacker AJ Schaffner scored four goals to lead the way. Jace Gan scored three goals, senior midfielder Steven Koressel had three goals and two assists and senior midfielder Carsten Beith scored twice to pace the Huntington offense. Sophomore midfielder Grant Lowman scored once and senior defenseman Tyler Harchut posted his first goal of the season.

Sophomore goalie Trevor Jackson had seven saves for Huntington, which hosts Marina at 7 p.m. Friday.

CIF Rankings

Edison continues its hold on the top spot in this week’s CIF Southern Section Division 1 baseball poll. The Chargers are followed by Valencia/Valencia, Vista Murrieta, Mater Dei, JSerra, Hart, Lakewood, Adolfo Camarillo, El Toro and Capistrano Valley.

In softball, Edison and Marina both rose in the Division 1 rankings, the Chargers moving from ninth to fifth and the Vikings from 10th to No. 7. In the Division 4 poll, Ocean View is ranked second behind Aquinas.
