Gordon reaches semis

OJAI — Henry Gordon, a Corona del Mar resident, has reached the boys’ 14 singles semifinals at the 111th annual Ojai Valley Junior Tennis Tournament. Gordon, the No. 3 seed, will face top-seeded Garrett Mak of Arcadia Saturday at 8 a.m.

Gordon beat Connor Hance of Torrance, 6-0, 6-2, in a round of 16 match Friday. Gordon then defeated No. 8-seeded Eric Tseng of Irvine, 6-2, 6-4, to reach the semifinals.

Newport Beach resident Garrett Kurtz reached the boys’ 14 singles quarterfinals. He beat Andoni Arrese of Ojai, 6-1, 6-1, but lost to No. 5-seeded Riley Smith of Los Alamitos, 7-5, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.

Corona del Mar High senior Shane Korber lost to Tyler Pham of Rancho Bernardo in a round of 16 match, 6-4, 6-2.

The CdM doubles team of Carter Wheatley and Ismaen Aboubakare lost to Nicolas Cummins and Blake Eggleston of Palm Desert, 6-3, 6-2, in a CIF doubles round of 16 match.

The Sage Hill School tandem of Andrew Kurzweil and Alex Manolakas lost to the Harvard-Westlake team of Harrison Katt and Matthew Wagner, 6-3, 6-2, in another round of 16 match.

CdM sophomore Nini Ugrelidze, the No. 5 seed in girls’ 16 singles, lost to Margo Pletcher, 6-3, 6-2, in a round of 16 match Friday.

Orange Coast College’s Lianne Wheelock lost to Mardee Littrell of Palomar, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, in a women’s community college singles round of 32 match. Wheelock and Hanna Mancino lost to Reedley’s Alex McDonald and Nicole Simone, 6-2, 6-1, in a community college doubles round of 32 match, while OCC’s Casey Kawabe and Remi Sutton lost to Saddleback’s Nikieta Hein and Jeannette Losaria, 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 32.

The OCC men’s team of Rex Miller and Paul Tran lost to Gabriel Dias and Dhanuk Withana of Cypress College, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8, in a community college doubles round of 32 match.
