Sectionals prove tough for locals

Through mid-week, one local Little League All-Star team — Ocean View's Majors All-Stars — was in the hunt for a California Section 10 tournament championship. Four other local teams, Ocean View's 10/11 and 9-10 All-Stars, Huntington Valley's Junior All-Stars and Robinwood's Senior All-Stars, saw their postseason runs come to an end earlier this week.

Majors All-Stars

Ocean View, which went undefeated to win the District 62 championship on July 6, suffered its first postseason loss Tuesday when Rancho Mission Viejo (District 68) scored a 6-5 victory in Section 10 tournament action at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley.

Rancho Mission Viejo staved off elimination with the win and set up a championship game final Wednesday night. The score wasn't available at press time.

Ocean View lost twice to Lake Forest, which toppled the locals, 10-0, in an opening game Saturday. Ocean View recovered an went on to take a 10-4 game from Anaheim (District 46) in elimination play Sunday.

10/11 All-Stars

Ocean View's run in the Section 10 tournament came to an end Tuesday at Lincoln Elementary School in Corona del Mar following a 7-4 loss to Rancho Mission Viejo (District 68), which went undefeated to win the championship.

On Monday (), the locals evened things against Aliso Viejo by scoring a 13-5 victory in an elimination game that sent Aliso Viejo home.

To be one of the two Orange County teams remaining, playing in the championship game of Sectionals, is a real accomplishment. I reminded our team that we are still District 62 champs."

Junior All-Stars
