CdM girls take fourth

The Corona del Mar Aquatics 14U girls' team finished fourth in the platinum division of the Evan Cousineau Cup recently.

CdM participated in the tournament in support of the "Be A Hero, Become A Donor Foundation," which is designed to promote marrow, blood and organ donation to support people battling life threatening situations.

CdM finished first in Saturday's bracket play in games against CHAWP and SoCal. After a tough loss to Xtreme WPC of Corona in the semifinals, CdM advanced to the third-place game against Rose Bowl WPC, falling 7-3.

CdM received contributions throughout the tournament from Heidi Ritner, Maddie Musselman, Bridget Storm, Lauren Castleton, Caitlin Harvey, Isabelle Braun, Riley Gladych, Devon Cooper, Kelly Morgan, Carina Mulligan, Elizabeth McKenzie and Delaney Gendron.

CdM's 12U and 14U girls will now begin preparing for November's SPA Age Group Championships.

The CdM Aquatics Girls Water Polo Club Program is directed by Sam Bailey. Bailey will be leading the CdM High girls' water polo team into the season next month.

The head coach is Brian Mericle, who was on a national championship team at USC, and the assistant coaches are two-time national champion John Puffer (UCLA), and three-time national champion and junior world champion Kacy Kunkel (UCLA, U.S. junior national team).
