College Roundup: Lions upset in GSAC first round

COSTA MESA — The No. 4-seeded Lions were upset in the first round of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament by No. 5 Biola Wednesday.

Marco Ruvalcaba scored an unassisted goal in the 77th minute for the Eagles (11-5-2).

Vanguard (12-7) outshot Biola, 14-9. Lions goalie Cody Adams had three saves. Kyle O'Brien had three shots, while Kevin Cornwall and Nikola Ilich had two shots each for Vanguard.



Orange Coast def. Irvine Valley

COSTA MESA — Karlee Riggs finished with 18 kills and 10 digs in the Pirates' 25-22, 25-23, 25-18 Orange Empire Conference win on Wednesday.

Dana Nicholson contributed 10 kills and three service aces for the Pirates (14-2, 9-1 in conference), who trail undefeated Golden West in conference play.
