Marina baseball program’s golf tourney a success

Share

The second Marina Baseball Golf Tournament played to a success Sunday at Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach. The sold-out event had 144 golfers competing for top honors and drew Marina coaches, parents, alumni and Huntington Beach community members for the tournament. More than 200 attended the post-tournament dinner. Among those competing were Major League Baseball players Craig Wilson (Marina) and David Huff (Edison). The first-place foursome in the tournament were Wilson, Huff and his brother, Tim Huff, and Arlene Moynan.

Funds raised are being used for the Marina varsity baseball infield remodel project, which started last August and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

“Our golf tournament was a lot of fun,” Marina baseball Coach Bob Marshall said. “Many players and parents on our team, and our community, partnered up to help raise much needed funds for the Marina baseball program. Last year we sold out the golf course and (did) again this year. That is big. With state funds lacking for our sports programs, it takes a collective effort to make our baseball program one of the best around.”
