Anteaters advance to final

SANTA BARBARA — UC Irvine won a pair of matches Friday to advance to Saturday’s championship match.

The No. 2-ranked Anteaters upset top-ranked BYU, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-23 in their first-round match. Then they rallied for a 23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 15-13 win over No. 6 Long Beach State on Friday evening at UCSB.

UCI (3-0) plays No. 6-ranked UCLA in the final at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Sophomore Jeremy Dejno lead UCI with 18 kills and two aces against BYU. Senior Carson Clark added 14 kills, three aces and six digs, while senior Kevin Carroll tallied 12 kills and five digs.

Middle blockers Scott Kevorken and Dan McDonnell had seven kills each, and setter Danie Stork dished out 53 assists.

Clark had 24 kills against Long Beach State, while Dejno added 23.
