Anteaters earn fourth straight victory

UC Irvine 62, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 60

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Senior Kassandra McCalister had 16 points and junior Anete Kintsone added 16 to lead the visiting Anteaters in the Big West Conference game Saturday. It was UCI’s fourth straight win, all against conference competition.

Senior Kiara Belen had nine points and five rebounds, while Klintsone chipped in six rebounds to help UCI improve to 8-10, 4-2 in conference.

Jacqueline Marshall made a 14-foot jumper to break a 59-59 tie for UCI with 19 seconds left and, after a Cal Poly free throw, Kelly Meggs made one free throw to finalize the scoring with six seconds left.

Cal Poly fell to 6-10, 3-1.

UCI returns to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home against Cal State Fullerton.

Irvine Valley 56, Orange Coast College 55

IRVINE — Down by two, Dominique Santos hit a three-pointer with 39 seconds left to lead Irvine Valley (11-10, 2-1 in conference) to an Orange Empire Conference victory Friday night.

Ashley Engeln led the Pirates (9-11, 1-2) with 20 points and Anna Bartel added nine points and 11 rebounds for the visitors.

Irvine Valley College 88, Orange Coast College 54

IRVINE — The Pirates fell to 6-13 and 1-2 in the Orange Empire Conference following Friday’s road setback.

OCC shot just 32.7% from the field, as Irvine Valley (15-4, 2-1) made 50% of its shots. Will Ligon led the Pirates with 11 points and Tyler Payne added 10.
