Sage Hill 10, Newport Harbor 8

NEWPORT BEACH — Robbe Simon swept at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 4-0, 6-0, to help lead the Lightning to the nonleague win Monday at The Tennis Club Newport Beach.

The No. 1 doubles team of Alex Manolakas and Eric Magliarditi also swept, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, for Sage Hill (2-5).

Reese Stalder (No. 1) and Chase Rados (No. 2) each won twice in singles for Newport Harbor (3-4).

“We finally had some decent weather and some good tennis.” Sage Coach A.G. Longoria said. “Whenever we play Coach Kristin Case and the Tars it’s a down-to-the-wire match. It could have gone either way and I guess it was our turn this time.”

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 19, Northwood 7

IRVINE — Sophomore Molly Rovzar scored six goals for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Monday.

Junior Torrey Attyah had four goals and two assists and freshman Kacie Kline added three goals and one assist for CdM (5-2, 2-0 in league). Freshman Sabrina Smith recorded a great interception for the Sea Kings.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Costa Mesa 136, Katella 25

COSTA MESA — Kellie Thorsness won the 50-yard freestyle (25.33) and 100 free (58.13) for the Mustangs in the nonleague meet Monday.

Aubry Hill won the 200 individual medley (2:37.44) and 100 butterfly (1:08.96, CIF qualifying time) for Costa Mesa (6-0), which plays host to Saddleback Wednesday.

BOYS’ GOLF

Corona del Mar 370, Villa Park 387

CORONA — Chase Wheatley shot one-under-par 71 to help lead the Sea Kings to the 18-hole, nonleague win at Green River Golf Course Monday.

Mike Moorhead carded a 72, John Davenport came in with 75, while Karick Brown and Hale Furey both shot 76 for CdM (9-0).

Last year, CdM’s lone loss in its 21-1 season was to Villa Park, who beat the Sea Kings by two strokes on the same course.

Sage Hill 216, Whitney 230

IRVINE — Ahmed Eltamami was the medalist after shooting an even-par 36 for the Lightning in the Academy League match at Strawberry Farms Golf Course Monday.

It was Eltamami’s sixth medalist honor in as many starts. Freshamn Michael Phan shot a 43 for Sage Hill (6-1, 2-0 in league).

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Corona del Mar 12, Northwood 0

CORONA DEL MAR — Junior Casey Mix had three goals and two assists for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League game Monday.

Junior Jack Ortlieb scored three goals and senior Michael Keasey had two goals and three assists for CdM (5-0, 4-0 in league).

Seniors Connor Canale (one goal, one assist) and Jack Gorab (one goal, one assist), along with sophomore Jay Damon (one goal) and freshman Sherwin Gerston (one goal) contributed offensively.

Seniors Micheal Ortlieb (four saves), Nolan Johnson (one save) and Bobby Brooks, as well as freshmen Hoyt Crance (one save) and Hugh Crance stood out on defense. Senior Taylor Epp won nine of 10 face-offs.

Newport Harbor 6, Servite 4

ANAHEIM — Alex Opyd scored two goals that helped the Sailors break away from a 4-4 tie in the nonleague game Monday.

Brandon Rausch, Riley Peterson, Ritter Hagadorn, and Jake Turner scored one goal each for Newport Harbor (3-3). Kole Escher, Luke Toohey, Turner and Riley Robinson had assists for the Sailors.

Christian Ruelas was outstanding in goal, posting 10 saves, scooping up six groundballs, and causing two takeaways. Opyd also contributed with five groundballs, while other defensive leaders were Andrew Wilson (five groundballs, four takeaways, seven knock downs), Jack Murrel (five groundballs, four takeaways), Toohey (five groundballs) and Hamilton Randle (two groundballs, three takeaways, two knockdowns).

The Sailors play host to Capistrano Valley Wednesday at 7 p.m.
