Hamilton wins first two matches at CIF individual tournament

Teague Hamilton, the No. 1 singles player for Laguna Beach High, advanced in the CIF Southern Section Boys’ Individual Tennis Regionals.

Hamilton won two matches Friday at The Tennis Club in Newport Beach. Following a first-round bye, he defeated Luke Mountain of Tesoro, 6-4, 6-2, and picked up a 6-3, 7-5 third-round win over Jenteel Alcafaras of Long Beach Wilson. Alcafaras was the top singles player in the Moore League and Mountain was the No. 2 player from the Sea View League.

Hamilton, the 2012 Orange Coast League champion, advanced to face Century League singles champion Stefan Doehler of Foothill, in a Round of 32 match Thursday at Whittier Narrows Tennis Center. The result was not available at press time. The tournament’s Round of 16 and quarterfinal round matches are Friday at the Seal Beach Tennis Center. The tournament’s semifinals and finals are Saturday.

Also competing for Laguna and the Orange Coast League at the Regionals Monday was Breakers’ No. 2 singles player, Morgan Lebby, and the Breakers’ top doubles team of Casey Kimball and Andrew Koumas. Lebby fell, 6-0, 6-0, in his first match to Sunset League champ John Lieu of Fountain Valley. Kimball and Koumas dropped a 6-1, 6-4 match to Marvin Do and Brandon Chai of South Torrance (Pioneer League No. 1).

Track and Field

Three Laguna Beach athletes Natasha Strickland, Spencer Anderson and Ricky Delatorre competed Saturday at the CIF Southern Section Track and Field Championships Division 4 competition at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

Strickland ran 5 minutes, 15.57 seconds in the girls’ 1,600 meters to finish in eighth place. Anderson went 15.71 in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles to finish ninth and Delatorre threw 43 feet 3 1/2 in the boys’ shot put to place sixth.
