Daily Pilot Cup begins

The Daily Pilot Cup youth soccer tournament, the biggest one yet, begins Tuesday in Costa Mesa.

The 13th annual youth soccer tournament had 216 teams registered from local elementary schools, surpassing the previous record by nine teams.

The soccer tournament features boys and girls playing separately in gold, silver and bronze divisions, competing on third- and fourth-grade and fifth- and sixth-grade levels.

The games are played at the Jack Hammett Sports Complex, Costa Mesa High and Davis Elementary.

The tournament ends Sunday with championship games and an awards ceremony.
