Local schools serve up Dave Mohs tourney

Sixty four girls’ volleyball teams begin play Friday at the 2012 Dave Mohs Tournament, hosted by Edison High. The annual event continues Saturday and the final day of competition is Monday.

The teams will be split into two divisions. Local teams competing in Division 1 are Edison, Huntington Beach and Marina, which also is a host site. Fountain Valley is also a host school and will play in the Division 2 field. Pool play in Division 1 will be played at both Edison and Marina. Pool play in Division 2 is at Fountain Valley, Corona del Mar, and Costa Mesa.

In Division 1, Marina is in Pool 3 with Redondo Union, Mission Viejo and Chapparal, and will play at Marina. Edison is in Pool 7 with Tesoro, Palos Verdes and Murrieta Valley, and will play at Edison. Huntington Beach is in Pool 8 with Long Beach Poly, El Dorado and West Ranch, and will play at Marina.

In Division 2, Fountain Valley is in Pool 6 with Villa Park, Bonita and Calvary Chapel/Santa Ana, and will play at Fountain Valley.

Pool play games start at 3:30 p.m. Friday and continue at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Boys’ Water Polo

Ocean View started its home slate on a winning note by defeating Pacifica, 7-4, in nonleague play. Glenn Baumann and Jordan Stout each scored twice to lead the Seahawks, who improved to 3-3 and are ranked fourth in CIF Southern Section Division 7.

Ocean View starts play Friday at the San Gabriel Valley Shootout.
