High School Roundup: CdM girls take down Costa Mesa, 61-21


Corona del Mar 61, Costa Mesa 21

CORONA DEL MAR — Freshman center Natalia Bruening finished with 19 points and 17 rebounds in the Sea Kings' nonleague game on Friday.

Maria King finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists for CdM (9-15).

CdM's Kelly Cam had 11 points and three three-pointers.

Aubriona Mathis led Costa Mesa (13-11) with eight points.



Newport Harbor 15, Agoura 4

IRVINE — Sailors senior Carly Christian scored a season-high nine goals in the Irvine Southern California Championships quarterfinal match Friday night at Woollett Aquatics Center.

Carolyn Smith added two goals for Newport Harbor (19-4), and Ciera Dixon, Christina O'Beck, Avery Peterson and Rachel Whitelegge tallied one goal each.

No. 3-seeded Newport Harbor plays No. 2-seeded Santa Barbara in a tournament semifinal at 11 a.m. Saturday at Woollett. The Sailors are 0-2 against the Dons this season.

The championship match is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.



Newport Harbor 63, Huntington Beach 60

NEWPORT BEACH — Junior guard Nic Sargeant scored 25 points and senior Kevin Rakestraw had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the host Sailors in the Sunset League game Friday.

Senior Robbie Rettig had 13 points, five assists and five steals, while senior Zach Wade had six assists for the Tars (11-13, 2-6 in league).

Newport Harbor plays its final home game Tuesday against Marina, against which it posted its first league win.


Estancia 54, Saddleback 43

SANTA ANA — Josh Mendoza scored 21 points, with two three-pointers, for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League game Friday.

Matt Jarmacz (16 points, six rebounds, two blocks), Chad Fackler (seven points, seven rebounds, five assists, five steals), Mike Hubbard (six points, six rebounds) and Levi Stillman (four points) also contributed for Estancia (3-5 in league).


Calvary Chapel 61, Costa Mesa 49

COSTA MESA — Kyle Hefner scored 18 points for the Mustangs in the Orange Coast League game Friday.

Andrew Wright had 11 points for Costa Mesa (4-4 in league).



Newport Harbor 2, Huntington Beach 2

NEWPORT BEACH — Henry Ramirez had two assists for the Sailors in the Sunset League game Friday.

Brandon Varela scored the game-tying goal in the 60th minute for Newport Harbor (11-8-4, 3-4-2 in league). True Tamplin also scored and goalkeeper Osiel Porcayo made seven saves for the Sailors, who play host to Marina on Wednesday.
