Estancia alumni baseball game set for Feb. 16

Share

Estancia High is having its alumni baseball game on Feb. 16 and it plans to honor two former players, Rich Amaral and Jeff Gardner, who went on to play in the major leagues.

“This is a start to a tradition of honoring former Eagle players and teams every year at our alumni game,” Estancia Coach Nate Goellrich said in an email. “We have a strong tradition here and we want to honor our former players who have helped Estancia baseball. When I got hired last year I could not believe there was no acknowledgment of the history of Estancia baseball around the facility. We have had many great players and coaches here at Estancia.”

Goellrich said he is asking for a $20 donation. Players receive a T-shirt and lunch.

“Our philosophy is that this is not a fundraiser as other programs use it,” Goellrich said in the email. “This is a day to honor our alumni and for our current players to meet and get to know guys who played before them.”

On Feb. 15, there will be a golf tournament at Costa Mesa Country Club. Cost is $100 per person and $380 per foursome.
