Boys' Soccer: CdM opens playoffs with home match

The Corona del Mar High boys' soccer team bounced back nicely from two straight losses with two consecutive wins to end the regular season.

The Sea Kings are hoping to carry that momentum into the postseason. CdM is the only Newport-Mesa area team to have a home game in the first round of the CIF playoffs. The brackets were released Monday.

The Sea Kings (11-6-6), which finished second in the Pacific Coast League, will play host to California (8-6-4) on Friday at 5 p.m. at Estancia High in a Division 3 first-round game.

California of Whittier finished second in the Del Rio League.

Estancia will also play at home to open the playoffs, but the Eagles will compete in a Division 5 wild-card match Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Brentwood (8-8-3), which finished fourth in the Alpha League.

Estancia (9-5-7) finished third in the Orange Coast League. The winner will play at Los Altos (15-6-2), the Hacienda League champion, in the first round on Friday.

In Division 1, Newport Harbor (12-8-4), which finished tied for third in the Sunset League, plays at Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks in wild-card game on Wednesday.

Notre Dame (11-4-8) finished fourth in the Mission League. The winner plays at El Toro (24-1-1), the Sea View League champion, on Friday.

In Division 6, Sage Hill (10-6-1), which finished second in the Academy League, plays in Riverside at Woodcrest Christian (13-4-3), which finished second in the Ambassador League, in a first-round game on Friday.
