Vanguard 86, Concordia 55

Nicole Ballestero scored 24 points and Chelsea Alfafara added 22 points for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Tuesday.

Esther Timmermans had 18 points and nine rebounds for Vanguard (18-2, 9-2 in conference), which is tied for No. 7 in the nation.

COSTA MESA — No. 2 singles player Andrew Pham (6-4, 6-2) and No. 6 singles player Dillon Nguyen (6-0, 6-1) both won for the Pirates in the nonconference match Tuesday.

Pham and Nguyen won at No. 3 doubles, 8-2, for OCC (3-1).

WOMEN’S GOLF

The Gold Rush

YORBA LINDA — Juniors Ronnie Valerio and Sara Banke each had top-10 performances in the first spring tournament to lead UC Irvine to a third-place finish at the Yorba Linda Country Club Tuesday.

Valerio was ninth, her first top 10 finish of the season, with a three-round total of 234 (74-76-84), while Banke was tied for 10th, her best career showing at UCI, after carding a 235 (75-82-78). Freshman Luciane Lee had the team’s best final round, posting a 75 and finishing in 17th place with a score of 237 (84-78-75). Senior Michelle Park was tied for 18th at 238 (83-78-77) and sophomore Taryn Yee was tied for 47th with a two-day total of 247 (84-85-78).

UCI moved up on spot on Tuesday after recording its lowest round of the tournament with a 308 on the final 18 holes. The Anteaters had a three-round total of 938 (316-314-308). Host Long Beach State captured the tournament crown with a score of 917, 10 shots ahead of Gonzaga (927).

MEN’S GOLF

The Farms Collegiate Invitational

RANCHO SANTE FE — UC Irvine junior Allan Jun shot a 73 on the final day of The Farms Collegiate Invitational at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe on Tuesday, finishing with a two-over total of 218, good for sixth place.

Jun helped the Anteaters place fifth after their three-round total of 905 in the 12-team tournament. Pacific won the event with an 872.
