Briefs: Youth football, cheer registration open

Huntington Beach Jr. All-American Football and Cheer 2013 registration is now open.

Team practices and home games are conducted at Huntington Beach High.

HBJAAF, whose teams go by the nickname, “Oilers,” is a non-profit corporation dedicated to bringing the benefits of organized football and cheer to the children ages 5 to 14 of Huntington Beach. It is one of 28 Jr. All-American Football organizations located in Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside counties that are members of Orange County Junior All-American Football (OCJAAF).

Poker tournament fundraiser

Edison High will hold its second Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament, a fundraiser to benefit the school’s athletic department, on May 4 at the Huntington Beach Elks Lodge (7711 Talbert Ave., Huntington Beach).

The event includes food, prizes and a silent auction. Registration can be found at https://www.ehspoker.com. Registration also will be accepted at the door starting at 5 p.m. the day of the event and first hand will be drawn at 6 p.m. The tournament is limited to 250 people and participants must be 21 years of age.

Triathlon set for April 6

The inaugural Huntington Beach Triathlon will take place April 6. The event, also known as, “Surf City Sprint,” is a sprint distance triathlon that is comprised of a one-half mile swim, 10-mile bike course, and 2.5-mile beach run.

The triathlon will start at 8 a.m. near lifeguard tower No. 8 at Huntington State Beach. The bike course will take place along the Santa Ana River Bike Trial. Participants will finish the course by completing a 2.5-mile beach run.

Chris “Macca” McCormack, a two-time Ironman World Champion and five-time International Triathlete of the Year, is schedule to compete at the event.
