Minor A Division

Seaview Nationals 8, Ocean View Stars 4

The Nationals started tournament play Monday with a victory over the Stars at Robinwood (Area 2).

The Nationals scored two runs in the first inning and went into the lead, 4-2, in the fourth after Ethan Vanderwag blasted a homer over the left field fence. The lead stayed intact after Ayden Davis caught a long fly ball in right field to stop a potential big fourth inning for the Stars.

Brody Forman led off the Nationals half of the fifth with a single to spark a big inning. He was followed by Zayne Brundage’s single, and a two-run double by Will Hooper.

Kevin Rood threw four, strong innings for the Nationals. He was followed by reliever Jordan Bonnaire and closer, Clay Kaneko.

For Ocean View, Anthony Kumaric went two for three with a double.

The Stars threatened in the sixth with two out after Samuel Cohn landed on first on an error, pitcher Chad Lux singled and Andrew Hovis walked to load the bases. Ryan Ionani then singled to drive in two runs, but the Stars’ rally ended on an infield ground out.
