Briefs: Volleyball Camp starts Monday

Junior Breakers Summer Volleyball Camp is a grass-root youth organization focused on teaching young athletes the basic fundamentals and strategies of volleyball using the techniques and philosophies taught at Laguna Beach High School.

Camps will be held between 4 and 6 p.m. daily starting Monday. The first camp runs through Thursday. Subsequent camp dates are July 15-18, July 29-Aug. 1, Aug. 5-8 and Aug. 19-22.

Participants will receive instruction from current Laguna Beach High boys’ volleyball head coach Scott Panaro, additional Laguna Beach High volleyball staff members and current players.

Baseball camps open Tuesday

A pair of baseball camps at Laguna Beach High get underway next Tuesday.

The Youth Baseball Camp is available for students grades fifth through 12th. The second camp, an Incoming Freshman Camp, is open to middle school and freshmen students. Both camps will run sessions between 5 and 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week beginning Tuesday at the school’s baseball field. The camps run through July 25.

Boys’ volleyball camp for high school players

Designed for incoming freshmen through 12th-grade players, Laguna Beach High School Volleyball Summer Camp starts in August.

The freshman-senior camps will take place between 4 to 7 p.m. daily the weeks of Aug. 5-8, Aug. 12-15 and Aug. 19-22.

The camp is designed to help incoming players, with no or limited experience or have not played on a previous boys’ volleyball team at Laguna Beach, to become more familiar with game skills and rules.

Returning players will continue to develop their skills and participate in game play.

The camp will be instructed by Laguna Beach High boys’ varsity head coach Scott Panaro, members of the Laguna coaching staff, and current collegiate players.

US Open of Surfing at end of month

The 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing is coming to the Huntington Beach Pier on July 20. In addition to surfing, the annual action sports event will include skateboarding and BMX competition, music and 100 interactive exhibits.

The contest runs through July 28 at the south side of the pier.
