Boys’ Basketball: Newport Harbor scores win over Mater Dei

Nic Sargeant scored 31 points to lead the Newport Harbor High boys’ basketball team past Mater Dei’s “B” team, 60-58, in the first round of the Yardley Tournament at Newport Harbor High Friday night.

Caleb O’Neil added eight points and Garrett Davis led Newport with 10 rebounds in the impressive win.

In other action, Brethren Christian beat Corona del Mar, 48-47. Jurupa Hills beat Sage Hill, 54-49. El Toro defeated Costa Mesa, 77-56.

Newport will play Jurupa Hills on Saturday at 2:45 p.m.
