McKennon easily advances

Max McKennon, an 11-year-old from Newport Beach, took care of business in his opener of the 24th Annual The Tennis Club Junior Open Tournament, also known as the War by the Shore, Tuesday at the Tennis Club Newport Beach.

McKennon, the top seed in the boys' 12 singles division, opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Carson Lee in the round of 16 and advanced to the quarterfinals. McKennon will play against Steven Ferry Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Ferry beat Bodi Brannen, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals.

The finals are Friday at 12:30 p.m.

McKennon is also the top seed in boys' 12 doubles, as he is teamed with Tristan Kwok. They play in the semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m.

Eric Tseng, an incoming senior at University High, is the top seed in the boys' 18s. He advanced to the quarterfinals after opening with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Brendan Baar. Tseng will face Dylan Holt in Wednesday's quarterfinals at 11 a.m.

Danielle Willson of Newport Beach is the No. 2 seed in girls' 14s. She opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Olivia Silberstein Monday and took down Alana Adams, 6-2, 6-1, Tuesday to advanced to the quarterfinals.

Willson will play against Catt MacEachern Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

Isabella Oedekerk of San Juan Capistrano is the top seed in girls' 14s and remains alive.

Willson is teamed with Emilee Duong as the top-seeded team in girls' 14s doubles. They play in the semifinals Thursday at 5 p.m.

Riley Gerdau, a Corona del Mar High High junior-to-be, and Kenzie Purcifull, a CdM incoming senior, take on the top-seeded team of Justine Huang and Amy Huang in the girls' 18 doubles quarterfinals Wednesday at 5 p.m.
