High School Roundup: Newport Harbor girls’ soccer remains unbeaten

Newport Harbor 5, El Modena 1

ORANGE — Freshman Sadie Pitchess scored twice for the Sailors, who remained unbeaten after the nonleague win Tuesday at Fred Kelly Stadium.

Sianna Siemonsma, Emily Johnson and Skylynn Rodriguez also had goals for Newport Harbor (7-0-2).

The Sailors also won the “EFGH” division of the Best in the West tournament on Saturday night, defeating Flintridge Prep, 3-2. Siemonsma, Rodriguez and Johnson had the goals, with Johnson scoring the game-winner assisted by Eva Nadeau’s corner kick. Goalie Ryah Montano made nine saves.

Newport Harbor plays at rival Corona del Mar in the Battle of the Bay game Thursday at 3 p.m.

Costa Mesa 2, Loara 1

Rayleen Chavez had a goal and an assist for the Mustangs in Tuesday’s nonleague game.

Emily Olivera also scored, and Yaritza Garcia added an assist for Costa Mesa.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Newport Harbor 10, Riverside Poly 5

Junior co-captain Kaela Whelan had three goals and a steal as the Sailors improved to 6-0 with the nonleague win Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.

Sarah Barker and Annie Rankin both scored two goals for the Sailors, while Jessica Lynch, Karis Couch and Lissa Westerman had one goal each. Kili Skibby had three steals and an assist, and Quincy Morgan had two steals and two assists.

Newport Harbor plays host to rival Corona del Mar in the Battle of the Bay game Friday at 5 p.m.
