More than 450 students at Cerritos Elementary School in Glendale received a holiday surprise on Monday.

Each student provided a wish list in advance, and the staff at Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital made sure their wishes became a reality.

During the past six weeks, the hospital’s staff has donated new toys and money for the cause, event organizers said, adding that for the past five years, the local hospital has given gifts to children at Cerritos Elementary.

Each gift was hand-wrapped and delivered at a surprise assembly. Gifts included soccer balls and basketballs as well as art supplies, super-hero action figures and science kits.

“There are many things I am responsible for doing throughout the year, but this holiday celebration is my favorite event that I look forward to year after year,” said Jill Welton, the hospital’s president, in a statement.

“Seeing the smiles and hearing the joy, that’s what the season of giving is all about,” she added.
