A grand-opening ceremony for Ace Hardware’s La Crescenta location is set to kick off this Friday morning, with a celebration planned for the following day.

In mid-December, the local location of the international hardware store soft-opened in a space previously occupied by Orchard Supply Hardware at 3100 Foothill Blvd.

Grand-opening festivities will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday with a “board-cutting” ceremony, where local officials and store representatives will cut a ceremonial board to mark the occasion.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, the celebration will continue with family-friendly activities, vendor demonstrations and giveaways.

“Why we are successful in the communities we serve is we’re very much a part of the community,” Ace spokesman Tom Mentzer said before the store opened this past fall.

Ace offers traditional hardware products, including fasteners and tools, as well as plumbing and electrical supplies.

It also features specialty departments for gardening, barbecues, kitchen and pet needs.

Ace announced 11 store openings in California last year, even as several other large brick-and-mortar retailers have closed stores as they struggle to compete with online juggernauts like Amazon.

Last August, Lowe’s, OSH’s parent company, announced it would shutter all of its OSH stores in the state by the end of that year. The La Crescenta store was one of at least two dozen locations to close throughout the Southland.
