Glendale police officer pleads not guilty to off-duty battery against Burbank officers

A Glendale police officer pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges that he drunkenly battered, while off duty, two Burbank police officers responding to a disturbance call at a Burbank restaurant last month.

Cameron Sanchez, 36, was charged this week with two counts of battery on a police officer and one count each of resisting arrest, resisting an executive officer and being drunk in public, according to Burbank Senior Assistant City Atty. Denny Wei.

All of the charges are misdemeanors.

Sanchez’s attorney Michael Severo declined on Wednesday to comment on the case, noting that he needed to review the investigation and determine what happened.

According to Burbank police, just before 2 a.m. on Oct. 28, two Burbank police officers were called to Barney’s Beanery regarding an intoxicated person causing a disturbance.

When they got there, Sanchez was reportedly standing on the sidewalk, and officers determined that he was unable to care for himself due to his alcohol intoxication, said Burbank Police Sgt. Claudio Losacco.

During Sanchez’s arrest, a fight ensued, leaving the Burbank officers with scrapes and scratches.

In a statement released at the time, Glendale Police Chief Robert Castro said the officer, who he did not name, was placed on leave pending an investigation into the assault.

“We are taking this case very seriously and assisting the Burbank Police Department with their investigation upon request,” he wrote in the statement.
