Few scenes are more recognizable in Charles Schulz’s “Peanuts” comic strip than when Lucy van Pelt, holding a football in place for Charlie Brown to kick it, yanks it away at the very last second, and Charlie Brown falls on his backside.

Forest Lawn Museum in Glendale will display 50 Sunday and daily football-themed “Peanuts” comic strips as part of a “Pigskin Peanuts” exhibit that will run through March 15.

The exhibit is designed for both those who grew up reading the comic strips in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s as well as a newer generation of readers interested in learning the historical and pop-culture relevance of “Peanuts,” museum director Ana Pescador said.

“We museum types have to bring exhibits that are attractive to a new generation but bring back memories of the past and present,” Pescador said. “‘Peanuts’ is something generations of families can have in common.”

The focus on football is both a staple of “Peanuts,” with more than 250 football-themed comic strips, and an effort by Forest Lawn to coincide with the 2018 NFL Super Bowl.

The wildfires in Northern California wine country in October burned down Schulz’s home in Santa Rosa. However, most of his original artwork and memorabilia are stored at the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center, also in Santa Rosa.

“Pigskin Peanuts” at Forest Lawn, which was organized and toured by the Schulz Museum, includes 20 pieces of “Peanuts” memorabilia, such as plates, clocks and watches related to the football theme.

According to Pescadero, the museum is planning a FIFA-themed exhibit in April that will overlap with the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Forest Lawn Museum is located at 1712 S. Glendale Ave., Glendale.
