Chef Bruno Serato, known for his philanthropy and Anaheim White House restaurant, will autograph copies of his book “The Power of Pasta” from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Casa Barilla restaurant at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa.

The book recounts how Serato, who lives in Huntington Beach, arrived in the United States from his native Italy not speaking a word of English and parlayed his $200 in savings into operating his own fine-dining restaurant and creating Caterina’s Club, a nonprofit that serves more than 3,500 pasta meals to needy children every night.

All proceeds from sales of the book will be donated to Caterina’s Club, according to a news release.

O.C. agencies try for wastewater recycling world record

Orange County officials will start the clock at 3 p.m. Thursday in an attempt to set a world record for the most wastewater recycled to drinking water in 24 hours.

The Orange County Water District and Orange County Sanitation District are seeking the record to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the water district’s groundwater replenishment system, the world’s largest advanced water purification project for potable reuse of wastewater.

Officials said they expect to set a Guinness World Record of more than 95 million gallons.

A ceremony to announce whether the record was achieved will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the groundwater replenishment system, 18700 Ward St., Fountain Valley. The event also will feature a festival for residents including man-made snow slides, a giant inflatable snow globe, food trucks and other festivities. Residents will be given tours of the facility after the announcement ceremony.
