An officer saw the vehicle at 19th Street and Newport Boulevard, and the Yukon merged onto the northbound 55 Freeway “at a high rate of speed,” according to a police news release.

After a short pursuit, the vehicle suddenly stopped and two people got out and ran east across the freeway and past a drainage ditch onto Pullman Street, police said.

Officers later saw the two suspects running to the rear of a building in the 200 block of Kalmus Drive, police said.

Jamal and Jamel Walker, 42, of Los Angeles were taken into custody.

Officers searched the vehicle and discovered coins, gloves and burglary tools, according to the news release.

The Walkers were arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime and evading peace officers with wanton disregard for safety.
