Local public safety crews were in a party mood Tuesday as they welcomed residents to National Night Out festivities to help build positive relationships with their communities.

National Night Out is an annual series of events held by police and fire departments around the country.

In Newport Beach, police gathered at Bonita Canyon Sports Park to help educate the public about crime prevention and provide a behind-the-scenes look at how the department operates.
