Pokémon players trade moves at Regional Championships in Costa Mesa

Pokémon players are assembled in Costa Mesa this weekend to see who has what it takes to be the best.

The 2018 Pokémon Regional Championships at the OC Fair & Event Center drew hundreds of competitors Saturday vying for a share of up to $50,000 in prizes.

However, perhaps the biggest prize up for grabs for players of the popular trading card and video games were points toward qualifying for the World Championships this summer.

Play continues from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Costa Mesa building at the fairgrounds, 88 Fair Drive. The event is open to the public to attend at no charge.
