Breakdown: Breakers coach John Shanahan looks to build on a successful first season at Laguna Beach. Last year, he became the program’s third different head coach since the Breakers posted an undefeated regular season in Mike Churchill’s final year at the helm in 2012. Shanahan delivered with the program’s first winning season since then and a run to the CIF Southern Section Division 13 semifinals…Several key players are returning for the Breakers, including quarterback Curtis Harrison and dynamic senior Adam Armstrong. Harrison showed dual-threat capability, making him dangerous in short-yardage situations…Ryan Blaser caught 19 more passes than any other Breaker last year, but his graduation means that Armstrong will undertake the role of Harrison’s primary target. He made four trips to the end zone last year, including a team-long 80-yard touchdown. Armstrong also had four interceptions and took the bulk of the kickoff return opportunities…Laguna Beach won the road matchup in their series with the Matadors, 47-18, to open the 2016 season. This year should not be much different, as Bolsa Grande averaged just 11.6 points per game.
