High School Boys’ Basketball Roundup: Newport Harbor advances to Tartan Classic semifinals

The Newport Harbor High boys’ basketball team will be making a second straight semifinal appearance in a tournament.

Junior forward Dayne Chalmers led the Sailors to the semifinals of the St. Margaret’s Tartan Classic by beating Brea Olinda 53-46 on Wednesday.

The Sailors (6-1) face Mission Viejo (4-3) in the semis on Friday at 8 p.m.

Newport Harbor’s Zack Swies had 16 points.

Laguna Beach 51, Dana Hills 36

Senior guard Blake Burzell finished with 23 points, helping the visiting Breakers improve to 6-0 on Wednesday.

Laguna Beach’s Grady Morgan contributed 12 points in the nonleague game.

The Breakers play at Irvine on Friday at 7 p.m.

Los Amigos 50, Laguna Hills 47

Sophomore guard Brian Pacheco scored 33 points in the Lobos’ nonleague game on the road Wednesday.

Los Amigos (2-3) plays host to Downey Calvary Chapel on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Marina 71, Compton Centennial 57

Junior forward Jakob Alamudun’s 24 points led the Vikings (5-2) in their Artesia Winter Classic game on Wednesday.

University 109, Pacifica Christian Orange County 69

The Tritons (2-5) lost their second straight game in the St. Margaret’s Tartan Classic on Wednesday.
