Breakdown: Fountain Valley and Troy are two of seven Orange County teams to start their seasons on Thursday of Week Zero … The Barons beat the Warriors 38-2 in last year’s season opener, with Sykes scoring a rushing touchdown … Last year’s win over Troy was part of a 5-1 start for Fountain Valley, which finished 7-5 overall, 2-3 in the Sunset League to tie for third place, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs before losing on the road against No. 2-seeded Santa Clarita Golden Valley … Krause and Sykes were Fountain Valley’s top two receivers last year in terms of yards, with Krause having team-best totals of 49 catches, 765 yards and six touchdowns and Sykes tallying 25 catches for 585 yards and five touchdowns … Stupin, a transfer from JSerra, is expected to be Fountain Valley’s quarterback this season. He was ruled eligible by the CIF Southern Section on Aug. 9 … Troy, led by second-year coach Michael Echaves, was 2-8 overall last season and finished fifth in the Freeway League at 1-4.
