Los Amigos’ Vidalia Abarca earns Garden Grove League girls’ soccer honor

Los Amigos High junior Vidalia Abarca, who helped the girls’ soccer program advance to the CIF Southern Section semifinals for the first time, was named the Garden Grove League Offensive Player of the Year in the 2017-18 season.

Other first-team players from Los Amigos included senior forward Maria Salgado, senior defender Karla Zetina, sophomore defender Vanessa Sanchez and sophomore midfielder Alexandra Santiago.

Abarca, a converted sweeper, scored 54 goals as a forward this season for Los Amigos (14-6-5, 8-2 in league). After helping the Lobos finish second in the league, she led them to the semifinals of the Division 5 playoffs, where Los Amigos lost 4-0 to eventual champion South Pasadena.

Los Amigos senior Kimberly Gil, junior Mya Rodriguez and sophomore Jennifer Rincon earned second-team accolades.

Senior Giselle Garcia of league champion Garden Grove earned league MVP honors, while Garden Grove junior Isabella Dabbalack was named league Defensive MVP. Santiago sophomore Damariz Martinez earned league Goalkeeper of the Year accolades.
