Breakdown: Huntington Beach visits Canyon, as the teams open the season against each other for the second year in a row. Last year, a 30-yard field goal by Max Meyers with two minutes to go sent Canyon to a 30-27 road win … Huntington Beach appears to have the edge in the rematch, as many of the Oilers’ top contributors have returned. The Oilers brought back six All-Sunset League selections, including Gosney, the co-Linebacker of the Year who had 100 tackles and eight sacks in 2017 ... Brady Gardner will make his first start at quarterback, but the pieces around him are more familiar, including McLawyer, Flanagan and wide receiver Isaac Bryant … Canyon did not put the ball in the air much last season, and the Comanches’ top eight rushers from a year ago were seniors.
