High School Roundup: Edison girls’ volleyball off to hot start in Lakewood tournament

The Edison High girls’ volleyball team won its first two matches of the Lakewood tournament on Saturday, advancing to the quarterfinals of the 32-team, single-elimination bracket.

Seniors Samantha Schofield and Taylor Torchia combined for 17 kills, as the Chargers opened with a 25-10, 25-16, 25-17 win over Downey.

In the second round, Edison beat Long Beach Wilson by a score of 18-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-23.

Junior Nikki Logan had a team-high 16 kills for the Chargers against the Bruins. Junior Emily Sparks added 23 assists and 10 kills, and Schofield also had 10 kills in the match.

Edison will oppose Studio City Harvard-Westlake in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
