Blevins awarded MVP for Academy League champion Sage Hill

Sage Hill School senior setter Jade Blevins has received Academy League girls’ volleyball MVP honors.

The University of Portland signee handed out 645 assists, the vast majority of them to junior outside hitters Amiyah De’Long and Sydnee Francis, who were also named to the first team.

Blevins added 77 kills, 63 blocks and 52 service aces in her senior season.

De’Long had 231 kills, 44 blocks and 41 aces. Francis had a team-high 277 kills to go with 206 digs and 62 aces.

Senior libero Carissa Long and senior middle blocker Kayla Gratzer were second-team selections for the Lightning.

Sophomore opposite Danielle Beder received honorable mention.

Sage Hill was the undefeated league champion, going 12-0. The Lightning (26-10 overall) reached the CIF Southern Section Division 3 semifinals as a No. 4 seed. In the CIF State Southern California Regionals, Sage Hill advanced to the Division II semifinals, losing a tight four-set match to top-seeded Chatsworth Sierra Canyon.

Junior setter McKinna Bullock made the second team for Brethren Christian, while Warriors junior outside hitter Alyssa McKee received honorable mention.

Brethren Christian (7-13, 3-9 in league) finished sixth out of seven teams in the league.
