Police: Would-be bank robber demands money in teller’s hand

A Huntington Beach man was arrested last weekend in connection with the attempted robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank branch in Newport Beach.

Nathan Charles Taylor, 35, entered the bank, in the 2700 block of West Coast Highway, just after 10 a.m. Saturday, police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.

Manzella said that while he was withdrawing money from his account, Taylor demanded all the money that the teller was holding and also passed her a note that read: “Give me the money now!”

“The teller only gave him the money he had withdrawn from his account and nothing more,” Manzella said.

The man left the bank on foot, but about 30 minutes after Newport Beach investigators left the scene, the bank called police to report that Taylor had returned, officials said.

A man matching Taylor’s description pleaded guilty in March to receiving stolen property. He was sentenced to three years of probation and 60 days in jail, according to Orange County Superior Court records.
