CRYSTAL COVE STATE PARK

Crystal Cove State Park, 8471 N. Coast Hwy.

Storm update: Backcountry is open except for El Moro Canyon, Slow ‘N Easy, and Elevator trails.

Open House: 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Crystal Cove State Park and Crystal Cove Alliance will host an open house in the park and marine research facility in the Historic District, where guests will learn about science and the research being conducted in the park and participate in activities. At 3 p.m. a park volunteer will lead a tidepool walk at the Rocky Bight tidepools. Park in the Los Trancos lot (from Coast Highway, turn inland at Los Trancos, then walk across the street or take the shuttle) and meet at Cottage No. 22. $15 day-use parking fee.

Photography Walk: 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Learn how to take beautiful photos of wildflowers. Meet at Pelican Point lot No. 2 at the top of the boardwalk near the parking lot (from Coast Highway, turn coastward at Newport Coast stoplight, right at the kiosk and left into the first lot.) $15 day-use parking fee.

LAGUNA COAST WILDERNESS PARK

Elder Trek: 9 to 11:30 a.m. today. Enjoy the outdoors and learn about diverse plant life and the early wildflowers on this easy, level, two-mile hike with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer naturalists. For ages 10 and older. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Little Sycamore Canyon Staging Area/Nix Nature Center (west side of Laguna Canyon Rd/SR-133, approximately 3.5 miles south of I-5/405). Reservations required, call (949) 923-2235. Parking is $3. Donation: $2 per

person.

Tot Walk: 9 to 10 a.m. today. Babies to 3-year-olds can explore on this easy walk with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteers. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Willow Canyon Staging Area (20101 Laguna Canyon Road, just south of El Toro Road intersection). Reservations required, call (949) 923-2235. Parking is $3. Donation: $2 per person.

Keep It Wild Volunteer Day: 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers help Laguna Canyon Foundation and OC Parks staff with restoration projects. Participants younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult .Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Little Sycamore Canyon Staging Area/Nix Nature Center (west side of Laguna Canyon Road/SR-133, approximately 3.5 miles south of I-5/405). Reservations required, call (949) 923-2235. Parking is $3. Free (parking fee waived).

Fitness Hike: 8:30 to 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Raise your heart rate and your spirits on this difficult, strenuous and fast-paced, six-mile hike (700-ft. elevation gain) over very steep, uneven terrain with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteers. For ages 15 and older. Not for beginners. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Ridge Park Staging Area (Newport Coast Drive to Ridge Park Rd east to end; meet at the gate.) Reservations required, call (949) 923-2235. Donation: $2 per person.

Dilley Loop Nature Hike: 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Get close to nature on this leisurely two-mile loop hike (370-ft. elevation gain) on steep and uneven terrain as you spot plants and animals or maybe just their tracks and signs along the way. Enjoy the early wildflowers. For ages 12 and older. Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, James Dilley Preserve (east side of Laguna Canyon Rd/SR-133, just north of 73 Toll Road).
