A 30-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV in Huntington Beach late Thursday, authorities said.

Officers were called to Pacific Coast Highway near Magnolia Street at about 11:10 p.m. and found the pedestrian unresponsive on the side of the road, according to Sgt. Eric Warken of the Huntington Beach Police Department.

Officers tried CPR until paramedics arrived, but the man died at the scene from major injuries suffered in the crash, Warken said.

The Orange County coroner’s office identified the man Friday as Jeffrey Emerson, whose city of residence was unclear.

A 2019 Dodge Durango with front-end damage was parked on the street, and the 51-year-old driver from Toronto stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Warken said. Three passengers were in the SUV, none of whom were injured.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police Accident Investigators Daniel Kim at (714) 536-5666 or Adam Turner at (714) 536-5670.
