A 26-year-old Huntington Beach man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Thursday after a police chase that ended in a collision, according to authorities.

Santa Ana police alleged the suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was speeding in a stolen pickup when officers tried to pull him over at about 1 a.m., according to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Bertagna said the driver refused to stop at McFadden Avenue and Fairview Street, triggering a pursuit that strayed into oncoming traffic on McFadden.

The driver collided with a bobtail truck that was heading north on Harbor Boulevard at McFadden, ending the pursuit, according to Bertagna.

The suspect was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange in critical condition, Bertagna said. The driver of the bobtail truck was not injured.

Any witnesses in the case are asked to call Cpl. Daniel Carrillo at (714) 245-8346.
