The Huntington Beach Police Department is investigating a traffic collision that killed a pedestrian Monday evening.

Officers responded to the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Yorktown Avenue at 6:20 p.m., according to a news release issued by the department.

Preliminary investigation shows a white Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on Beach before allegedly striking the female pedestrian crossing eastbound on Yorktown.

The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was found dead in the roadway when officers arrived, police said.

Huntington Beach spokesperson Jennifer Carey said the pedestrian disregarded the traffic signal and entered the roadway without the right of way.

“Where she entered the roadway is still under investigation,” she said.

A 58-year-old man from Garden Grove who had been driving the Silverado remained in the area. Police said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the collision.

Witnesses of the collision or events leading up to it are encouraged to contact Huntington Beach Police Department’s Traffic Investigator D. Demetre at (714) 536 - 5670 or Investigator V. Rattanchandani at (714) 536 - 5231.
