Costa Mesa police investigate death of a 23-year-old man as a homicide

Police said Wednesday that they have launched a homicide investigation into the death of a 23-year-old man in Costa Mesa.

Costa Mesa police responded to Grace Lane and Baker Street at about 2:40 a.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call, according to a Police Department statement.

When officers arrived, they found an injured man. Police did not specify the type of injuries or how he may have received them.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries later Monday morning, according to police.

“At this time, nothing further will be released to protect the open and ongoing investigation,” the department said in the statement.
