Luxury auto storage business seeks Costa Mesa Planning Commission approval

A proposal to open a luxury auto storage facility near John Wayne Airport will go to the Costa Mesa Planning Commission for review Monday.

The business would operate at 3080 Airway Ave. and include 32 secure, private storage units available for lease.

The operator, Finish Line Auto Storage, also proposes a host of onsite amenities for lessees, including mobile car wash and detail stations and a members-only clubhouse complete with conference and meeting rooms, a dining room, a kitchen, lounge space, a bar and wine storage, according to a city staff report.

“The main intent of the proposal is to provide rentable spaces with a high level of security to store luxury cars while creating a community for car enthusiasts,” the report states.

Though the commercial and industrial area by the airport is already home to a collection of auto-related businesses, Finish Line’s proposal is distinct because it blends storage with social space, according to the staff report. As a result, the Planning Commission would have to award a conditional use permit for the facility to open.

Monday’s commission meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the Costa Mesa Senior Center, 695 W. 19th St.
