Floating lanterns set the bay aglow at Newport Dunes

Visitors filled the beach at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort on Upper Newport Bay on Saturday for the first 1,000 Lights Water Lantern Festival.

More than 1,000 guests at the sold-out event could assemble a floating lantern from a kit and decorate it as they wished before releasing it onto the water at sunset. The lanterns were to be recovered later, the resort said.

The festival also included food trucks, vendors, carnival games, music and other entertainment.
