Santa Claus glided into the lagoon of the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort on a stand-up paddleboard Friday night to flip the switch on dozens of illuminated floating Christmas decorations that will keep the waters glowing all holiday season.

The Lighting of the Bay, in its 28th year, is one of Newport Beach’s major Christmas traditions, along with the tree lighting at Fashion Island and the five-night Christmas Boat Parade.

The Dunes’ lagoon lights will go on daily at dusk.
